Binalbagan is rich in its history and culture. Established in 1572
it is on record the oldest town in Western Visayas thereby earning the
title, "Banwang Panganay" or oldest town. Oton, also founded
in 1572 is its only rival to this claim.
Its beauty has inspired one of its sons, Hon. Augurio Abeto, Municipal
Mayor and later Congressman to create composos, a musical form that is
truly Filipino. Among his compositions are: Dalawidaw, Banwang Binalbagan
and numerous others. One of Binalbagan's barangays is immortalized in
the classic Dandansoy.
With three coastal barangays stretching its shoreline, Binalbagan has
several beaches. Those located in Brgy. Canmoros with its clear water
provide relaxation to visitors and residents during weekends, particularly
during the summer months. Several privately owned beaches like La Aplaya,
Queen Rina's Beach, and Kasuya Beach have cottages available for a fee.
Nature lovers may also enjoy at Barangay Santol, Tago-Tago Falls in Barangay
Amontay and Binadlan Falls in Brgy. Bi-ao. Omot falls is located right
along the Santol-Amontay Barangay Road while Binadlan Falls with its year
round cool waters is approximately eight (8) kilometers from Brgy. Bi-ao.
The beaches of Canmoros are accessible by tricycles and private transportation.
